Mudgee 55, Canowindra 0.
Last Saturday the Pythons traveled to Mudgee, who previously played in the Blowes Cup, but this year have dropped back to the one team, Presidents Cup.
We witnessed one of the worst displays seen, appalling, atrocious, incompetent, argumentative and unprofessional.
No it wasn’t the Pythons performance, but the referee.
It appeared that the penalty count was something like Mudgee 56, Canowindra 3.
The boys voted that the official should get Mudgee’s 3 points for best and fairest and Player’s player.
With approximately 13 players unavailable for the match, we were always going to be up against the odds, but we were willing to put up a good display of rugby.
Both sides were evenly matched for the first 10 minutes, until the penalties and imaginary infringements finally took their toll, it never let up, and Mudgee led 36-0 at the break.
The frustration mounted and Captain Coach Mark Brown gave the order to drive into them. With big hits from Mark, Wade Judd, Todd Wyburn, Will Whiteman and Sam Wythes, Mudgee were feeling the pressure and three of their players had to retire injured.
Eventually our lack of bench players saw our men eventually succumb to fatigue and Mudgee scored another 19 points.
Even the water boy wasn’t exempt from the referee, being sent from the field on three occasions.
Three points went to Wade Judd, 2 to Jimmy Wythes, and 1 point to Mark Brown, Lloyd Jackson and Dave Coady.
And thank you for Michael Knight, Brendan Sharp and former Canowindra Python, who now resides in Mudgee, Simon Fisher for filling in.
This Saturday we play Coolah at home. Come and cheer the boys, we will be going all out to win this one for you, our supporters.
