Get ready for the return of the big band swing era when Jimmie Sloggett returns with a huge line up to taste Canowindra on May 24.
One of Australia’s most accomplished musicians, Jimmie took up saxophone at the age of 16.
His first band was formed and based in Orange and his apprenticeship of piano tuning took him to Sydney where he was asked to join Johnny Rebb and the Rebels to do a national tour with the Everly Brothers.
Jimmie’s talents as an arranger and musical director were recognised very early in his career. Johnny O’Keefe encouraged Jimmie as an arranger and musical producer as well as a saxophonist in his band the Dee Jays and had Jimmie do the arrangements for 2 of his biggest hits - ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ and ‘I Thank You’,
In the 80’s Jimmie enjoyed working with Jimmie Barnes, Cold Chisel, Renee Geyer and Venetta Fields to name a few, and has played with Max Merritt for over 40 years.
Jimmie formed a musical relationship with bass player Ray Campbell back in the Johnny O’Keefe days and now, Ray joins Jimmie on the taste Canowindra gig where both team up with a clutch other Orange musical luminaries.
On drums will be Rocky Rochelli - wife vocalist Cecelia in a guest artist spot - plus “The Brass Monks” father and son team Bobby Arnold (trombone) and Jake Arnold (trumpet & flugel). At 12 years of age Jake has landed a scholarship at The Conservatorium of Music.
Jimmie, Bobby and Jake were all taught by Jimmie’s father Harry Sloggett. Piano player Lance Martin from Parkes and percussionist/harmonica player Ross Sampson gives the show a genuine regional flavour.
Join Jimmie as he comes home to his musical roots.
And why taste Canowindra? Well it just so happens Jimmie’s
sister Veronica is taste’s closest neighbour.
All tickets must be pre-booked. For more information on the event, contact taste Canowindra at 42 Ferguson St.
